Joyce Yang Date: October 5, 2008 Location: John H. Williams Theatre In June 2005, at 19 years of age, Joyce Yang was awarded the silver medal at the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The prize package included $20,000, three years of U.S. concert engagements and a compact disc recording on the Harmonia Mundi USA label. The youngest of the Cliburn Competition's participants, she was the recipient of both the Steven De Groote Memorial Award for the Best Performance of Chamber Music, as well as the Beverley Taylor Smith Award for the Best Performance of a New Work. Joyce Yang continues to captivate audiences and colleagues with her warm and generous personality, combined with musicianship that belies her age. Tickets are $25. Nathaniel Dett Chorale Date: October 7, 2008 Time: 7:30 p.m. Location: John H. Williams Theatre Named for the Afro-Canadian composer, the 21-voice Chorale is Canada's first professional group dedicated to African music of all styles. Their repertoire ranges from "Ave Maria" to "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and includes classical, spiritual, jazz, gospel, folk and blues. The Nathaniel Dett Chorale's vision is to build bridges of understanding, appreciation, and acceptance between communities of people, both Afrocentric and other, through the medium of music. The Chorale seeks to dissolve the barriers of stereotype, to empower humans in general, and those of African descent in particular. The Chorale's mission is to be a premier performer of Afrocentric composers - past, present and future - and to be a touchstone for the education of audiences and communities regarding the full spectrum of Afrocentric choral music. AUTHOR SARA PARETSKY TO SPEAK IN TULSA Date: October 11, 2008 Time: 2pm Location: Downtown Central Library Author Sara Paretsky makes her first-ever Oklahoma appearance as the featured speaker for the new Oklahoma Conversation in the Humanities. FREE LANDFILL DAYS Saturday, October 18, 2008 Sunday, October 19, 2008 Tulsa utility customers can dispose of unwanted items, with some exceptions. The landfill is located at 13740 East 46th Street North and is approximately 1 1/2 miles east of U.S. 169. No air conditioners or refrigerators will be accepted. There will be a $2.00 fee for each tire.

Sylvia McNair's 25-year career as one of the world's leading singers has brought her two Grammy Awards, over 70 recordings and worldwide accolades. Since 1982, McNair has performed with almost every major American and European orchestra and opera company, including The Met, Chicago Lyric Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Opera, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philharmonics of Vienna and Berlin, working with an array of the world's most prominent conductors, including Masur, Ozawa, Slatkin, Marriner, Previn and the late Robert Shaw, the musician she credits for giving her the important opportunities that started her career. Web: http://www.philbrook.org In the mid-1920s, Waite Phillips commissioned Edward Buehler Delk to design his two residences, Villa Philbrook in Tulsa and Villa Philmont on his ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico, as well as the Philtower Office Building in downtown Tulsa. This exhibition presents an overview of Delk?s life and career with special focus on his projects in Bartlesville and Tulsa.
